Hi! I’m Michael Nunez, and I’m one of the founders and current CEO of Chip Builders Inc. I’m a Husband and a Father.

I grew up in Trujillo Alto, a town within the “metro area” with mountain areas and urban suburbs in Puerto Rico.

Growing up, the only thing I had in my mind was living & breathing baseball. At one point, I was better than the average player, competing against collegiate athletes and professional players while still in High School. During the summer after my Junior year in High School, I went to the Dominican Republic with the hopes of signing a contract with any team at 16 since my Dad is Dominican and I was granted citizenship. I kept up with the other professional players and got close to signing with the Cardinals Organization. There were lots of events that happened afterward, but I didn’t play much in College, unfortunately, and that’s where my baseball career ended. During all those years, I learned to become a leader for my team and the power of persistence to develop & grow a skill set over time.

Before leaving Puerto Rico to go to College, I remember my parents used to own & operate their own business called Specialized Electrical Systems. My Dad is a Master Electrician and Electrical Engineer. During most summers & winter breaks, I used to go with my dad to some of his jobs, where I started to learn the basics of construction equipment and electrical power. As time passed, his clients would present him with more extensive jobs, and these jobs would always surprise me every time we arrived on site. I saw my dad go from performing routine maintenance on the small generators that Univision & Telemundo news vans would carry to installing & breaking down Caterpillar & Cummins Power Generators about the size of buildings. I remember feeling intimidated from following my dad’s footsteps if baseball didn’t work out because, at the time, I considered his jobs humongous projects. Still, I loved seeing projects go from a paper set of plans to reality, and I started appreciating craftsmanship as others taught me how to work with my hands.

During my time in College, I went from studying Advertising and Public Relations for one semester to changing my major to exercise science & physiology for the remainder of my time. I debated whether to follow the path of becoming a collegiate/professional strength coach or a Physical Therapist. After graduating, I couldn’t find any employment in my field, so I took a job working as a Mechanic for a “fancy” bowling alley that had a full bar/restaurant & an arcade. This is where I started my career in restaurant management. I managed to work my way out of the mechanic position into several positions until I entered management. I also had the opportunity to work with my brother, a much better bowling machine mechanic than I ever will be.

When I moved to Florida in 2018, I met one of my best friends and former business partner, Cerbando Mendoza. He had been in the roofing industry for several years and sought to start his own business with the help of my current partner, “Bobby” Mclennan. Cerbando showed me everything there is to know about roofing, and Bobby was (and still is) our mentor since he had been a General Contractor since the late 2000’s and has been in construction for much longer than both of us. We established Chip Builders Inc in 2019, and it’s been a heck of a ride. Since then, we’ve moved from roofing & restoration to construction because we wanted to maximize the opportunities that we had and use our experiences together to be more creative by building homes and businesses within our community.

While I’ve had many opportunities, failures, and different careers, I’ve realized that managing and working in this construction firm is what I plan to spend the rest of my life doing. Maybe other ventures are waiting for me down the road, but right now, I love having the ability to build places where families will grow and have meaningful relationships & memories. I have the opportunity to build homes & businesses for the families in Central Florida, and I wouldn’t change it for anything else.
